Journalist Thomas Heldmark visited the Program Conference on behalf of the independent research foundation Mistra, and has published an article about new initiatives towards a fossil-free Sweden he heard about there.

Mistra Carbon Exit is in its third year and interesting results are being produced from the different sub projects. During two inspiring days we brought together researchers, industry representatives, government agencies and NGO:s at our annual meeting in Stockholm. The objective of the conference was to inform each other about program activities, to present research results and discuss these among each other.

In June results from Mistra Carbon Exit were presented at the Climate Energy Summit in South Korea. The key theme for the event was “Globalization 4.0 and The Paris Agreement as Smart City Strategy” and the aim of the whole conference was to spur momentum for sustainable economic growth by introducing the trends and prospect of Smart City and the climate-energy sector that lead to sustainable economic development.

These three webinars are organized as part of the Mistra Carbon Exit case study Buildings and Transportation infrastructure. Very welcome to join us for dialogues and for exchanging ideas.

During spring 2019 five webinars were held dedicated to Buildings and Transportation infrastructure. Here you find the summary.

In the end of May the Climate Friendly Materials Roundtable was held at the Swedish EPA to discuss policy design for greening construction supply chains. The session was arranged by Mistra Carbon Exit, the German Institute for Economic Research, DIW Berlin and the research network Climate Strategies.

In cooperation with CEPS, Mistra Carbon Exit arranged Low Carbon Economy Forum in Brussels, June 18-19. The theme was Industrial implications of EU and global climate change policy and Lars Zetterberg, Program Director, was one of the speakers.

The research project Impres, coordinated with Mistra Carbon Exit, has been running for two years and is now completed. The study regards how procurement requirements for carbon reduction can be implemented in infrastructure projects and how this connects to national and organizational policy contexts in different countries.

Together with the Swedish permanent representation to the EU, Mistra organized a seminar on June 4 in Brussels where Lars Zetterberg, Programme Director of Mistra Carbon Exit, participated. The topic of the meeting was the transition to a fossil free economy in Europe.

How do representatives of Swedish industry and Swedish environmental politics and administration perceive efforts towards achieving Sweden’s target of net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2045? What do they see as key challenges and enabling conditions for assuming climate leadership? What are their visions for future sustainable societies?
