Policies to reduce whole-life carbon in the built environment
Whole-life carbon (WLC) emissions from buildings contribute 40 per cent of global CO2 emissions, yet embodied emissions remain overlooked.
In the latest in-depth analysis from the think tank CEPS, Patricia Urban, Ida Karlsson, and Luca Nipius compare EU and Swedish policies on WLC emissions and identify gaps, opportunities, and how life cycle-based building regulations can lead the way. By mapping the different policy frameworks to buildings’ life cycle stages, the authors identified gaps and opportunities for strengthening existing measures.
