Call for MSc thesis proposals: Project 0 - The making of a zero carbon footprint car

We are looking for 4 Master thesis students to conduct 4 separate, but related, MSc thesis projects aimed at assessing how the making of a zero carbon footprint car (i.e. with no tailpipe and zero embedded GHG emissions) can become a reality within a decade.

The proposed project is aimed at exploring how a battery electric passenger car can be produced without any GHG emissions along relevant supply chains, from production of material/components, to manufacturing of batteries and vehicle assembly, as well as potential impact on the UN 2030 Agenda Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The project will provide valuable input to Polestars 0 Project and will feed into the Mistra Carbon Exit research program. Mistra Carbon Exit has the aim to analyse and demonstrate how supply chains of buildings, infrastructure and transportation can be transformed to comply with the Swedish target of net-zero GHG emissions by the year 2045, at the latest.

Primary supervisors at Chalmers are listed below and are the main contacts for possible questions and for applying.

Co-supervisors will include staff at Polestar and researchers from IVL Swedish Environmental Research Institute/Mistra Carbon Exit and Gothenburg Centre for Sustainable Development. If you are interested in working with any of the above topics send your CV and a short description of your project idea including which topic it relates to the supervisor indicated below.

Supervisor (Topic 1): Anna Emanuelsson, anna.emanuelsson@chalmers.se
Supervisor (Topic 2 and 3): Johannes Morfeldt, johannes.morfeldt@chalmers.se
Supervisor (Topic 4): Lorenzo di Lucia, lorenzo.dilucia@chalmers.se
